Malinois shepherd
Character

Originally bred to protect flocks and guard farmers and their property, it remains an excellent watchdog today. With a Malinois at your side, you won't have to worry about burglars. This popular breed is also often used as a police, customs, or rescue dog. They also excel in dog sports. These intelligent, hard-working dogs make excellent companion dogs that get along well with other pets and children. In Flanders, they are also called "Mechelse Schepers" (Malinois Shepherds). "Scheper" is simply another word for "shepherd."
Appearance
Malinois are very similar in character, but there is considerable diversity in appearance. Several variations are distinguished within this breed based on coat length, direction of growth, and color. Malinois have a short, fawn-colored coat with black highlights and a black mask. The dark shading on the coat is caused by their black hair tips. They closely resemble German Shepherds. Besides the typical Malinois, there is also a Laekenois. This is a rare type with a rough coat. There are also two long-haired varieties: the Tervueren and the Groenendael.
