Pomeranian
Character
A Pomeranian, also known as a " dwarf kees ," is a popular, compact, and active companion dog. This sweet, feisty, furry dog is very loyal to its family and thrives in the company of other pets and children. This cheerful, playful, and intelligent human companion is alert and courageous. Sometimes Pomeranians can even be a bit overconfident when encountering a larger dog. They have a lot of personality. They are mischievous but not shy or aggressive. Due to their great empathy and intuition, they are often used as therapy dogs.
Appearance
Pomeranians have beautiful dark, almond-shaped eyes, a wedge-shaped head, and pointed, furry ears. Their coat consists of a long outer coat and a shorter, soft, fluffy undercoat. This coat and their curly, bushy tail can come in various colors. Sometimes, different shades are combined: black, brown, white, cream, red, and more. The Pomeranian measures between 25 and 38 cm. Although it has a steep back, its back is quite short.
Other details
Despite their small size, Pomeranians have a loud bark and make excellent watchdogs. They are easily trained in obedience and agility. A Pomeranian is happiest when allowed to participate in family activities. They enjoy a pleasant walk, playing with a ball, rope, or frisbee. If left alone for long periods, Pomeranians become bored. Nevertheless, they are excellent apartment dwellers. A daily brushing is essential for these dogs, but never clip their coat before summer, otherwise they will lose their natural insulation against the sun and heat. Bathe them only when absolutely necessary. Poms easily live to be 13 or 14 years old.
