American Staffordshire Terrier
Character
The American Staffordshire Terrier or "Amstaff" is the full name for the American Staffordshire Terrier. In English, it's called the American Staffordshire Terrier or "American Thug." This breed originated from the bulldog and the terrier and is known for its stability and strength. These impressive dogs are very energetic and agile. An American Staffordshire Terrier also makes an entertaining, enthusiastic, and loyal pet. Despite their menacing name and appearance, they have a very gentle nature. They get along well with children, cats, and other familiar family members. Especially when introduced early, they pose no problem in large families with other pets. This companion dog is actually a sweet, sturdy, good-natured dog rather than a bully or gangster (thug). They are outgoing, confident, and courageous. They will protect their family to the death in the event of a real threat. They are not a hunting dog, but they do enjoy tracking and hiking.
Appearance
The characteristic square head of the strong, robust American Staffordshire Terrier might make you wary of this breed. But despite its perhaps intimidating appearance, with its powerful, stocky torso and broad chest, it's actually a friendly family dog. The American Staffordshire Terrier is a medium-sized breed, standing between 33 and 53 cm at the withers. It comes in three different sizes: pocket, standard, and extra-large. American Staffors typically weigh between 30 and 40 kg. The round or oval eyes of this compact, short-legged dog come in a variety of colors. Blue is the only color not permitted in the breed standard. The American Staffordshire Terrier has small ears, and its short coat can take on various colors, shades, and combinations, except "robin." Its smooth, glossy coat is flat and moderately coarse when stroked.
Other details
The confident American Staffordshire Terrier is non-aggressive and eager to please its owner. American Thugs require consistent training and clear structure. If you establish proper boundaries through sound, consistent training, they are reliable and versatile companions. Their short, tight coat requires regular brushing. Bathe them only when necessary. American Bullies adapt well to city life and small living arrangements. However, they do need sufficient exercise and (mental) stimulation. They live for 8 to 12 years.
